TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her two children has been found guilty.

The conviction comes after Edward Covington abruptly fired his attorneys during Thursday’s trial, saying he wanted to plead guilty. Circuit Judge William Fuente found him guilty of all counts Friday and set a sentencing date for November.

The 42-year-old admitted responsibility for the 2008 murders of Lisa Freiberg and her two young children. Covington said he wants the judge to decide whether to sentence him to death.

He also told the court that he doesn’t want to present any evidence in his own defense and wants to end the suffering of the Freiberg family.

Covington killed Lisa Freiberg, 26, and her children, Zachary, 7, Heather Savannah, 2, and the family dog on Mother’s Day in 2008.
