WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - State, local and federal officials have taken a tour of the former site of the Rocky Point amusement park ahead of its temporary opening to the public.

The open house scheduled for Saturday will be the first time the land is open to the public in nearly two decades. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 80 acres of land sits on the edge of Narragansett Bay in Warwick and is being converted into a state park.

Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit says the state is focused on creating walking trails and also looking for partnerships with the private sector to build amenities such as a wedding venue.
