ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested the ex-boyfriend of a 24-year-old woman whose burned body was found in a car at an Athens quarry.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/ZMJ3N3 ) Rodricus Deuntae Ward was jailed Friday after investigators questioned him about the death of 24-year-old Darla Gibbons of Atlanta, whose death was discovered Wednesday.

Agent Mike Ayers of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation would not say whether Ward would be charged with Gibbons’ death. He was booked early Friday on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities said Gibbons and Ward had an off-and-on again relationship for years. Police have said the woman was shot before her car was set ablaze with her body inside.
