ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Police say an unknown suspect has thrown what appears to be Molotov cocktail at an Albuquerque mosque.

Albuquerque police spokesman Tanner Tixier said the explosive device was tossed Friday morning at a window of the Islamic Center but did not break the glass and enter the building.

He says the device briefly ignited and smoke caused damage to the exterior of the mosque. No injuries were reported.

Tixier says a number of agencies, including the FBI, are investigating the attack.

No arrests have been made.

The Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations said in a statement the attack on the mosque should be investigated as a hate crime.
