PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence police officer has been arrested in Texas and charged with public intoxication at a spa.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1nCoe2f ) that 31-year-old officer Nicholas Froncillo was arrested at around 11 p.m. on Oct. 18 in Arlington, Texas, at a business called Foot Spa, according to an incident report the station obtained.

The station reported Froncillo did not return an email seeking comment, and his phone number was disconnected.

Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare would not confirm the identity of the officer or details of the case, but told the station the department is investigating an incident in Texas involving an off-duty officer.

The department this month decided not to hire a rookie police officer after his girlfriend was accused of stealing a cellphone during a police academy graduation party.
