SPANISH FORK, Utah (AP) - A new scholarship named after a fallen Utah County deputy will help Boy Scouts go to camp for free.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1woKcX7 ) the Boy Scouts’ Utah National Parks Council announced the program on Thursday.

The Cory Wride Memorial Campership will provide one free week of summer camp for a Boy Scout who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.

Wride’s former Mormon bishop, Duane Lundell, says the LDS stake president will select the winner.

Lundell says he hopes the award will remind Scouts of the sacrifices made to keep people free and safe.
