CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Clarksville man has been convicted of criminally negligent homicide in a fatal shooting in August 2011.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported (https://leafne.ws/1xgQEi7 ) that jurors deliberated for about two hours Thursday before returning a guilty verdict on a lesser charge in the case of 42-year-old Mark DeWayne McMurry.

McMurry had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Douglas “DJ” Ramey, who was found shot four times inside his crashed car.

McMurry told the jury he acted in self-defense when Ramey put a gun to his head and threatened to kill him. He said he grabbed the gun and it discharged.

Prosecutors described the slaying as an act of revenge for a drug robbery two years earlier.

McMurry’s sentencing before Judge John H. Gasaway is scheduled for Dec. 9.
