GLOBE, Ariz. (AP) - The pilot of a vintage plane was taken to a Tucson hospital after the craft lost oil pressure and crashed near the east-central Arizona city of Globe.

Gila County Sheriff’s officials say the Thunder Mustang plane went down Friday morning north of Highway 188 and the single-engine aircraft was destroyed.

Thompson says the pilot was the only person on board and he sustained injuries to his face.

The man was flown to University Medical Center for treatment. His name and age weren’t immediately released.

The plane was headed to Casa Grande for an aviation expo.

Authorities say the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the incident.
