NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - It’s not quite Halloween, but zombies are going to be running in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

The annual Zombie 5K returns on Saturday to Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston.

During the race, runners have to avoid folks dressed up as zombies who try to grab detachable flags that the runners wear while on the course. The runners start with three flags but anyone who brings five canned goods to the race receives an extra flag.

Before the event, the runners, who are being urged to come in costume, can get a makeover themselves as a zombie if they choose.
