ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Athens-Clarke County Assistant Police Chief Carter Greene has been named the department’s interim chief.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bitly.com/1zsgIfN) that Greene will fill in for longtime police chief Jack Lumpkin, who becomes chief of the Savannah-Chatham County Police Department next month.

Greene, a native of Columbus, was promoted to assistant chief in January 2013. Before that, he served as commander of the uniform division.
