SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California Gov. Jerry Brown is extending condolences to the families of two Northern California sheriff’s deputies who were shot in what he calls “brutal murders.”

The governor’s statement says Friday’s killings of Sacramento County sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis are “a tragic reminder of the sacrifices we demand of our peace officers.”

Flags at the state Capitol have been ordered to fly at half-staff.

Authorities say a man armed with an assault rifle shot the two and wounded another deputy and a man he’d tried to carjack during a Northern California crime spree.

Marcelo Marquez of Salt Lake City was arrested Friday afternoon in Placer County after a wild six-hour chase and manhunt.
