NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a 22-year-old man is in critical condition after he was assaulted at a shopping center parking lot in Newark.

Delaware State Police say the assault happened on Friday around 6 p.m.

Delaware State Police say the man was seated in the front passenger seat of a car parked at the Food Lion grocery store on South Chapel Street in Newark when two male suspects approached.

Delaware State Police say the men opened the car door and confronted the 22-year-old. One man punched him in the head and upper body. The two then fled in a white SUV.

A woman sitting in the car was not injured and called 911.

Delaware State Police say the two suspects are described as black males between the ages of 20 and 25.
