BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Authorities say they found thousands of rounds of ammunition in the motel room of a militia member who was arrested after a friendly fire incident involving a Border Patrol agent.

The Brownsville Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1tUe2VC ) Kevin Massey’s arrest was sparked by an Aug. 29 incident in which a Border Patrol agent pursuing a group of immigrants near the Texas-Mexico border fired several shots at a man armed with a rifle. The man, who wasn’t injured, was identified as a militia member.

Massey, also armed, was located nearby. He was later charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

During a federal court hearing Friday, defense attorneys said the ammunition was a collection of donations made to the militia group.

A judge set a $30,000 bond for Massey.
