NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a 31-year-old Brooklyn man has been fatally stabbed by his companion.

The stabbing happened Friday at a home on East 96th Street in the Canarsie section.

Police say Ledaryl Burns was stabbed in the chest and slashed in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Twenty-seven-year-old Samuel Joseph was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Family members tell the Daily News (https://nydn.us/1tz4wFo ) that the two had been in a relationship for about five years.

Joseph’s sister Shavon Coakley says the relationship was often tumultuous.

But the sister says Joseph “never hurt a fly.”

It wasn’t clear if Joseph had a lawyer.
