BOSTON (AP) - The candidates running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts are hitting the campaign trail.

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Edward Markey is planning to tour the Huntington Elementary School in Brockton Saturday morning to highlight what he says is the state’s leadership in education before attending a campaign event in Plymouth.

On Sunday, Markey will attend a Lynn Democratic City Committee Annual Unity Breakfast before making a campaign stop in Newburyport.

Republican challenger Brian Herr is starting the day Saturday at a clam festival in Essex before taking a tour of downtown Salem and attending a Pumpkin Stroll in Milford.

Markey won a special election last year to complete John Kerry’s Senate term and is seeking a full six-year term after serving 37 years in the House.

The election is Nov. 4.
