BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Dalai Lama continued his visit to Birmingham with trips to the Alabama Theater and Regions Field.

The Tibetan spiritual leader participated in an interfaith panel discussion Sunday titled “Beyond Belief” and was briefly interrupted by a protester in the back of the theater.

Al.com reports one of the panelists, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, took a microphone and scolded the protester before security came to escort them out.

Protesters have followed the Dalai Lama’s visit, saying he has persecuted people and caused them to be mistreated and ostracized in exile communities.

The Dalai Lama was joined onstage at Regions Field by Birmingham Mayor William Bell. He told a crowd that gathered to hear him speak that the generation of the 21st Century is responsible for creating a peaceful, compassionate world.
