HONOLULU (AP) - A 32-year-old driver suspected of striking three pedestrians in Haleiwa has been taken into custody.

Hawaii News Now (https://bit.ly/ZUr87o) reports the driver, Travis Atkinson, was held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop to render aid.

Honolulu police say Atkinson hit a parked car before the three pedestrians were struck Sunday afternoon on the North Shore.

A man and two women at about 3 p.m. were walking near Laniakea Beach when they were hit. The driver was found a short time later.

Lifeguards assisted the pedestrians until paramedics arrived.

The 35-year-old man was transported in serious condition to a hospital. A woman in her 30s and a woman in her 50s also were seriously injured.
