SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Eight families have been displaced after a fire at a San Antonio apartment complex in which a dog died.

Michael Wagner, acting battalion chief, tells the San Antonio Express-News (https://bit.ly/1wBOHAc ) that the fire started Sunday afternoon on the second floor of the apartment complex. He says that when they arrived on the scene, the fire had already spread into the attic space.

No people were injured in the blaze. Wagner says all the people were cleared and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to eight units.

Taking refuge in the apartment manager’s office, 30-year-old Priscilla Pena was in tears. Her 3-year-old dog Abby died in the fire.

Wagner says that the cause of the fire is under investigation. Initial damage costs were estimated at about $100,000.
