LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say the person found dead at the scene of a rubbish fire in Los Angeles earlier this month was a 49-year-old man who was possibly homeless.

The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday (https://lat.ms/1oPFceo ) that coroner’s officials identified the body as that of William Bret Steele.

His remains were found Oct. 6 by firefighters after they extinguished an outdoor fire near Nobel Middle School in Northridge.

Firefighters notified police that a body was at the scene.

The cause of death is under investigation.
