BURTON, Mich. (AP) - Local and state law enforcement officers aren’t playing tricks and it won’t be much of a treat for motorists caught not wearing a seat belt.

Officials have kicked off a Halloween-themed Click It Or Ticket campaign that runs through Nov. 9. Officials held announcements Monday at Burton Haunted Forest in suburban Flint and the Wyandotte Jaycees Haunted House in suburban Detroit.

The Flint Journal says 140 police departments and state police will strictly enforce the law, which carries a $65 fine.

The state police Office of Highway Safety Planning says that seat belt use has dropped in the state from a high of 98 percent to 93 percent.
