CINCINNATI (AP) - An Illinois man charged with kidnapping and killing a Kentucky woman who was found dead in a vehicle along a highway in southwest Ohio pleaded not guilty Monday.

Attorneys for Terry Froman of Brookport, Illinois, entered not-guilty pleas for him in Warren County Common Pleas Court in Lebanon to charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and firearms discharge. County Prosecutor David Fornshell said the judge ordered Froman held without bond.

A message seeking comment from Froman’s attorney, Melynda Cook, wasn’t immediately returned Monday.

Authorities say Froman killed estranged girlfriend Kim Thomas’ 17-year-old son in Mayfield, Kentucky, and then kidnapped and killed Thomas before being arrested Sept. 12 north of Cincinnati. Ohio authorities said they heard gunshots as they approached Froman’s stopped vehicle along Interstate 75.

They said Froman had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and 34-year-old Thomas was dead inside the vehicle.

Fornshell said the 41-year-old Illinois man could face the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder. He was indicted in Ohio on two aggravated murder counts, two kidnapping counts and a firearms discharge count. Froman also faces murder and kidnapping charges in Kentucky.

Authorities said Thomas’ son, Michael Mohney, was shot multiple times. He was found dead at his mother’s Kentucky home, triggering the search for Thomas that ended in southwest Ohio.
