PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Lincoln Chafee is getting some criticism - from a fellow Democrat - in a new TV ad in the lieutenant governor’s race.

The Cumberland mayor’s 30-second spot says that “after years of Lincoln Chafee, we need a change.” McKee calls his Republican opponent, Catherine Taylor, a “Chafee insider” and says the two have been like peas in a pod. Taylor served as director of the division of elderly affairs in his administration.

Chafee, a former Republican, was elected governor in 2010 as an independent but later became a Democrat.

The state GOP on Monday called it ridiculous to label Taylor a Chafee pawn and said it’s “highly amusing” to see McKee try to distance himself from his own party.

McKee campaign manager Michael Trainor served previously as Chafee’s spokesman.
