DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Officials in Dubuque say a plugged sanitary sewer pipe caused a sanitary sewer manhole to overflow untreated wastewater into the city’s storm sewer system.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the city’s public works department was notified of the sewer back up Monday afternoon. Crews removed the blockage a short time later.

The overflow was reported near the intersection of Collins Street and St. Joseph Street. Officials are cautioning people to keep their children and pets away from the affected area for 48 hours.
