BOSTON (AP) - Police say a fugitive Massachusetts child rape suspect is also suspected in at least six sexual assaults and robberies around the country since he fled the state and may be headed back eastward after traveling as far as Oregon.

Gregory Lewis, 26, is believed to have been in the Columbus, Ohio, area Sunday night and in the Indianapolis area before that, Massachusetts State Police said Monday. He was believed to be in the Denver area in early October and in Portland, Oregon; Boise, Idaho; and Salt Lake City at mid-month.

In September, Lewis was believed to have traveled to Kentucky and to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he is a suspect in the kidnapping, robbery and assault of a woman on Sept. 23.

Police said Monday that some of the women Lewis is suspected of attacking and robbing at gunpoint were escort service workers he arranged to meet at hotels.

Lewis, from Southbridge, was released on $1,000 bail after his arraignment Aug. 6 on charges including statutory rape of a child.

Police said he removed his court-ordered GPS ankle bracelet Sept. 15 and fled, then returned to his parents’ home 10 days later and assaulted a relative before taking a gun and leaving again.

He is believed to be driving a blue 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, possibly with stolen license plates.
