MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Public hearings are beginning to determine which nine Memphis schools will join the state-run Achievement School District next fall.

WMC-TV (https://bit.ly/1wC2pzN) reports the first hearing in a series of such meetings is set for Monday.

Wooddale Middle, South Side Middle and Raleigh-Egypt High have already been assigned to charter schools.

Nine others are eligible for takeover, but only six will be chosen to become part of the ASD. All of the schools performed in the bottom 5 percent according to scores released over the summer.

The final decision will be announced in December.
