TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - A Tuscaloosa County man is going to prison for life for the killing of a man who was beaten to death with a fence post.

A judge sentenced 31-year-old Christopher Patton on Monday in the slaying of 79-year-old Kenneth McDaniel.

Jurors convicted Patton of murder in the killing in August.

The Tuscaloosa News (https://bit.ly/1tf1xSH ) reports that Patton maintains his innocence. He told a judge during a sentencing hearing that he’s being railroad.

But prosecutors argued that Patton killed McDaniel with a metal fence post at the man’s home in July 2012. Prosecutors say Patton sabotaged the breaker box at McDaniel’s house to lure him outside for the attack.

Patton claimed he owned the property and trespassed several times before the slaying.
