BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Authorities have charged a Bismarck man who they say elbowed his wife in the head and tried to strangle her.

Terry Link is charged with felony counts of attempted murder, interfering with an emergency call and preventing arrest. The 54-year-old was ordered held on $250,000 bond Monday in Burleigh County court. He is in divorce proceedings with his 47-year-old wife and was ordered not to contact her.

Bismarck police say the pair was arguing Sunday when Link attacked her. They say he stopped her from calling 911 but their adult daughter was able to call.

Police say Link was strangling the woman and holding a knife when officers arrived. An officer punched Link in the face when he wouldn’t let go of her.

Online jail records didn’t list an attorney.
