CANNON BALL, N.D. (AP) - Students at Cannon Ball Elementary School on the Standing Rock Reservation will receive new classroom technology including individual iPads through a federal program partnered with private companies.

U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp announced the school’s selection by Apple on Monday to receive Mac computers and Apple TVs through a White House educational technology initiative. The program aims to increase access to broadband Internet and technology in classrooms across the country.

President Barack Obama visited Cannon Ball in June, making him the third sitting president to visit Indian Country in almost 80 years. Heitkamp requested additional federal funding for the elementary school after Obama’s visit. She says there is a “dire need” for additional resources at the school.
