CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Homeless advocates in Corvallis have changed their name and approach. The Corvallis Homeless Shelter Coalition is now Corvallis Housing First.

Executive director Gina Vee told a public forum Monday at the library that focusing on housing can reduce rates of emergency room care and arrests for the homeless.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1nMNi6H) Vee was questioned about the new policy of admitting people to the shelter even if they have been consuming alcohol.

Vee says alcohol and drugs cannot be brought inside.

The cold weather shelter opens Saturday in Corvallis.
