DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - The Dothan Police Department’s training supervisor is dead after suffering an apparent heart attack while jogging.

Authorities say Sgt. Jeffrey W. Garrett collapsed and was later pronounced dead during a training run with fellow officers.

Garrett was on duty at the time he was stricken Monday. Police Maj. Steve Parrish says Garrett was recently assigned the job of training supervisor and was getting in shape.

Authorities suspect a heart attack.

Parrish says Garrett served two stints with the department. The latest one was for about 16 years.
