TIPP CITY, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a driver who fled the scene of a traffic collision eventually crashed his truck in a nearby cornfield causing a fire resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.

Police say a man driving a pickup truck caused extensive damage when he crashed into two stopped vehicles at a traffic light Monday afternoon in Tipp City, north of Dayton. The driver then fled the scene.

Authorities say the man drove through a residential area and hit a trailer before crashing into a cornfield, where the truck caught on fire. The Dayton Daily News reports the flames cost $15,000 in damages to the cornfield.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries. Police say they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
