NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (AP) - More than 100 soldiers in a Hudson Valley-based Army National Guard unit have returned to the U.S. after being deployed to Afghanistan.

National Guard officials say the soldiers from the 1569th Transportation Co. arrived at Fort Hood, Texas, on Monday. The unit, which specializes in moving supplies, is based at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in New Windsor in Orange County.

The unit spent 10 months in Afghanistan, helping coalition forces consolidate and close operating bases.

The soldiers will conduct demobilization tasks while at Fort Hood and are expected back in New York stat next week.
