NEW YORK (AP) - A man convicted of fatally stabbing his mother and gravely wounding his father at their Brooklyn home in 2010 has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

The New York Post (https://bit.ly/1zek9p5 ) says Ryan Devaney gave a rambling speech at his sentencing Monday.

He said Jesus was his savior and so he was forgiven. He said he hoped his family could forgive him too because he would like to see them in heaven.

In a victim-impact statement read in court by one of his daughter, Devaney’s father said he loved his son but couldn’t forgive him.

The 74-year-old Raymond Devaney barely survived the attack.

Ryan Devaney has been barred from ever having any contact with his family.
