FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper struck and killed a pedestrian in Fayetteville.

The Highway Patrol said in a statement that the pedestrian ran in front of the trooper’s cruiser shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. The trooper was not hurt.

The victim was 17-year-old Christopher Mason McCray of Stedman. Investigators say he was wearing dark clothing at the time he was struck by the cruiser.

They don’t know why McCray ran into the road.
