RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Highway Patrol says a teenager was killed when he was struck by a patrol cruiser while trying to cross a highway in Fayetteville.

Lt. Jeff Gordon said 17-year-old Christopher Mason McCray of Stedman was killed Monday night.

In a statement released Tuesday, Gordon said a trooper was driving south on the All American Freeway en route to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to complete an investigation into a wreck in Harnett County.

Gordon said the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, ran into the roadway and into the path of the trooper’s car. McCray died at the scene. The trooper wasn’t hurt, and an investigation is continuing.
