ORANGE, Mass. (AP) - An Athol man is facing charges after police found what they described as a portable methamphetamine manufacturing lab in an apartment.

Joseph Hamel was held on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in Orange District Court to related charges.

The 28-year-old Hamel was arrested last week after police, acting on a tip, allegedly found the lab in the apartment.

Investigators say he told them the lab equipment fit in the back of his mother’s car. Police say all the equipment fit into a bag and could easily be moved around.

Authorities say Hamel had two outstanding warrants on prior drug charges.

He is due back in court Nov. 21.
