RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Rapid City man accused of killing another man in July is scheduled to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in November.

Eighteen-year-old Michael Hand has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity to second-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Myron Rock. Rock’s body was found in an alley, and an autopsy concluded he was beaten and strangled.

Public Defender Eric Whitcher has said Hand might be suffering from mental health problems. The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1vaJqtB ) that Whitcher’s office is covering the costs of the evaluation.

Hand is due back in court Dec. 22.
