RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - A new school in Richland may be named York Elementary after the African-American man who was part of the Lewis & Clark expedition.

It’s one of five possible names being presented to the school board Nov. 12 for the new school that will open next fall.

KVEW reports (https://bit.ly/10wJkVQ) others are:

Appleseed Elementary or Orchard Grove Elementary for the connection to area apple orchards.

Leona Libby Elementary for a woman scientist on the Hanford Project with Enrico Fermi.

Lake Lewis Elementary for a prehistoric lake that covered the region.
