ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks is investigating a deer poaching report in the Aberdeen area.

Conservation officer Nick Cochran tells the Aberdeen American News (https://bit.ly/1taYyJw ) that he has not confirmed that deer have been killed, but he says he has received reports of people using poison to kill the deer.

Cochran adds that it is illegal to bait and poison any wildlife.

Cochran says hunters around this time of the year are spotlighting deer or harvesting them before the deer hunting season begins. East River deer hunting starts Nov. 22.

Youth deer hunting and archery seasons have begun.
