FAYETTVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The South River Electric Membership Corp. is refunding nearly $3 million to its customers in southeastern North Carolina.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1xzxJiI ) the electric cooperative in Dunn is mailing the money to about 15,000 customers.

The cooperative says the refunds are capital credits from 1995 and 1996.

The utility says the average refund is about $60.

For current members whose total was $50 or less, the refund was applied to their account.

The cooperative provides electric service to about 43,000 customers in parts of Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Johnston and Sampson counties.
