COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An international women’s rights leader is delivering the annual Joseph Cardinal Bernadin lecture at the University of South Carolina.

Sister Joan Chittister is speaking Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the School of Law auditorium.

Chittister is executive director of Benetvision, a center of contemporary spirituality. She also co-chairs the Global Peace Initiative for Women, which partners with the United Nations. Her talk is free and open to the public.

Chittister has written 66 books and is a columnist for the National Catholic Reporter and The Huffington Post.

The Bernadin lecture honors the Columbia native, former USC student and archbishop of Chicago. He often addressed social and ethical issues that afflict the world, and had a legacy of service, social concern and education.
