BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in which two Beaufort police officers were hurt when their cruisers collided.

Police tell area media outlets the wreck happened about 5 a.m. Friday when the officers were responding to a report of an abandoned truck and trailer thought to have been stolen.

Authorities say one of the cruisers was making a U-turn when the other hit it on the driver’s side.

One of the officers has been admitted to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. The other was treated and released from Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

The road where the accident happened was closed for almost six hours.
