SORRENTO, La. (AP) - Two women have been killed in a morning crash on Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish.

The crash, which occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday, happened just east of U.S. Highway 61. Louisiana State Police identified the victims as 21-year-old Keona K. Bobo, the driver, and her passenger, 20-year-old Brittany J. Bright. Both are from Baton Rouge.

Authorities say Bobo was driving west on Interstate 10 in the left lane and for an unknown reason the car ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. State police say both Bobo and Bright were unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries.

Impairment is not suspected, but a toxicology sample from Bobo has been submitted for analysis. Investigators believe excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
