BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - A grand opening is taking place for the newly renovated Brooks House in Brattleboro.

A fire gutted the historic building in April 2011 and a few months later, the streets were flooded due to Tropical Storm Irene.

Since then, a group of local businessmen and developer formed to purchase and renovate it.

The building includes apartments, college and office space and shops.

Classes started last month at the building for Community College of Vermont and Vermont Technical College students.

Gov. Peter Shumlin and Congressman Peter Welch plan to make remarks at the grand opening celebration on Friday.
