HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - A big public art project in the city of Holland is nearing completion.

Holland City Council this week approved an agreement with the Community Foundation of the Holland-Zeeland Area to install the “Unity Sun” sculpture by artist Cyril Lixenberg.

The Holland Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1yBXvrt ) the $375,000 Celebrating Our Diversity Public Art project is planned for River Avenue bridge. Installation could take place this month. It includes a 36-foot sculpture, 12 discs to be hung from light poles and benches and artwork at Van Bragt Park.

The idea for a large sculpture arose when the bridge was built in 2006. No public money or tax dollars are being spent on the project.

Also approved this week was a recommendation to the Ottawa County Road Commission to name the corridor “Unity Bridge.”
