PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a South Kingstown man to six months of home confinement for defrauding Sears of more than $150,000.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 53-year-old Joseph Kilty was sentenced Friday. He must do 300 hours of community service and pay restitution to Sears. The former authorized dealer of a Middletown Sears Hometown and Outlet store previously pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud.

Kilty, from January 2012 through June 2013, failed to deposit $154,120 into a bank account into which all Sears receipts were to have been deposited. He deposited them instead into personal bank accounts.

He also created false documents to make it appear the deposits had been made and provided two counterfeit bank checks to a Sears manager.
