WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - An Ohio man has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in the slaying of a man authorities said he killed while trying to steal drugs from a northeastern Pennsylvania home a year ago.

Nineteen-year-old Lamar Curry-Davis of Cleveland pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree murder in Luzerne County Court in the Nov. 6 death of 46-year-old Eduardo Madera in Wilkes-Barre.

Prosecutors said the defendant told police at the time of his arrest that he entered the home in order to steal heroin in hopes of selling it.

Investigators said he told them he was confronted by Madera and fired “just to spook him” but continued to fire as Madera kept coming toward him.

Curry-Davis also pleaded guilty to a burglary charge in a separate case.
