LUCEDALE, Miss. (AP) - A George County man has been sentenced to serve 30 years in prison for second-degree murder in a 2012 fatal shooting.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1ujdEhp ) Clifford Preston Byrd pleaded guilty Thursday in circuit court in the death of 27-year-old Nathan Mitchell White.

Prosecutors say the incident occurred on Dec. 16, 2012, when White and two others confronted Byrd for doing “donuts” in his truck on their neighbor’s front yard. White died from a single gunshot wound.

Circuit Judge Kathy Jackson sentenced the 28-year-old Byrd to 30 years in prison followed by 10 years on post release supervision.

Byrd was also sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years on post release supervision on two counts of aggravated assault for firing shots at the two men with White.
