CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A man who discarded a gun while fleeing from police earlier this year has been given prison time.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says Harris Ceaser III, of St. Louis, was sentenced Wednesday to more than six years in federal prison on one count of possession of a firearm as a felon.

Ceaser was arrested in March as authorities responded to a report of a stabbing in Cedar Rapids. A neighborhood resident reported a suspicious person in the area. Authorities say when they spotted Ceaser, he fled on foot.

A patrol car video showed Ceasar throwing a handgun over a fence during the chase. The weapon was later recovered and records showed it was reported stolen.

Ceasar was not charged in the stabbing case.
