HARRODSBURG, Ky. (AP) - Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire that damaged one of the most recognizable buildings in Mercer County.

According to WKYT-TV (https://bit.ly/1raYzZw ), fire crews say two people walking past the old opera house in downtown Harrodsburg spotted smoke coming out of the building early Friday morning. Flames shot through the windows on the second and third floor as crews battled the fire.

Fire crews said much of the old opera house was damaged, but the theater is fine.

The fire marshal and state police are now trying to figure out what caused the fire.

The building has housed the city’s first fire station, the old city hall and the old opera house.
